I have always wanted to visit the Empire State Building, even before watching the 1993 film starring Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. It was once the world’s tallest building, with an Art Deco style that somehow symbolises New York itself. Built on the site of the former Waldorf-Astoria hotel, the building was included in the Seven Wonders of the Modern World.

From the observation deck, it’s possible to view all the other landmarks of Manhattan Island (including the Chrysler Building, the World Trade Center, Central Park, Macy’s, Stuyvesant Town) as well as the various bridges that connect into Manhattan.
