This is a nostalgic look at the original Disneyland in Anaheim, built by Walt Disney himself, in the late 1990s before it was expanded and an additional theme park (Disney California Adventure Park) was built on the original carpark.
Note This article is part of our USA Retrospective series, featuring images captured on an early generation Kodak DC220 digital camera with 1280x1024 resolution. The images have post processed to artificially increase sharpness. Please forgive us if they do not meet your expectations of photographic quality.
This is the one that started it all, the original Disneyland and the first theme park. According to Wikipedia:
Construction began on July 16, 1954, and cost $17 million to complete (equivalent to $131 million in 2019). The park was opened one year and one day later.
Some of the features and attractions have been retained till today, such as Adventureland and Fantasyland (incorporating the It's A Small World boat ride). The Disneyland castle and Main Town USA is replicated in subsequent Disney theme parks.
It was good to wander through the park pretty much as Walt Disney would have envisioned it, in an era before modern day rides and attractions, so these photographs are presented for historical interest.

Sheraton Anaheim (Castle Hotel)
We stayed at the Sheraton Anaheim, also called the Castle Hotel because of the Castle like theming and architecture. It is now called the Anaheim Majestic Garden Hotel. When we arrived to check in, we discovered it was prom night and we certainly saw a lot of blonde hair and satin giving a somewhat Disney Princess atmosphere to the hotel.
